A recombinant yeast producing product X showed that the production yielded 70% product from the complex substrate (Figure 1).Our comprehensive metabolomics platform revealed that from the specific substrate A over 30 per centresulted into a previous unmonitored and unwanted byproduct.
Further metabolomic studies and strain mutagenesiswas able to minimize this side route and increase the yield of the desired product close to 100% (Figure 2).
