Metabolite QTL Discovery

E-mail Print PDF

Identification of metabolite QTL in a set of tomato natural variation in the form of introgression lines (IL). GC-MS based metabolite profiling allowed the identification of metabolites important in flavour and nutrition (Schauer et al., 2006, NBT).

Metabolite profiling of 75 ILs and identification of 74 standard substances resulted in 889 metabolite QTL of diverse chemical classes, i.e. sugars, amino acids, organic acids, vitamins.

Superimposed heatmap of metabolic changes in an IL population over two harvests compared to an elite cultivar

This approach yields in a shortest time a wealth of information, which can not be collected using different methodology and allowing to exploit all the metabolic variation in any type of population.
